The Best Apps for Instagram Stories

Did you know Instagram Stories are used by 500 million users every day? With video being one of the most popular ways to consume content, Instagram Stories are becoming the first thing people view when they login to the app.

There are a ton of ways to engage your audience using Instagram Stories. From using polls to displaying the countdown feature for a product launch, get comfortable with utilizing all of IG Stories features and test which ones get the most traction from your audience.

Another way to take things to the next level on Instagram Stories: third-party apps that help you schedule, design, and make your content that much more engaging.

Here are my FAVORITE apps for taking your Instagram Stories to the next level!

Design:

  • A Design Kit: This app was created by the team at A Beautiful Mess and is a fun way to add simple design, colorful brush strokes, text and stickers to your stories (or posts). I used this app to play around on this post to add a little design flair - so whimsical!

  • Storylux or Unfold: Both of these apps are great for making chic collages, polaroid and instant film templates and unique looking backgrounds for photos.

  • Over: An easy to use app to add text over images! This is a good app to have if you want more font options that the basic options Instagram offers.

Templates:

  • Canva: Canva is a Social Media Manager’s BFF. Customize endless templates for all social media channels with your brand’s colors and fonts. It’s the perfect tool for create a consistent look across all platforms and is a very user-friendly alternative to Photoshop.

  • Creative Market: A mecca for creative high-quality stock photos, fonts, graphics and templates. Most elements on the site cost money, but they are affordable!

Animation/Video:

  • Life Lapse: The best stop-motion app I’ve yet to find. I’m obsessed!

  • Prequel: Add visual effects to your videos like a film overlay, glitches, neon color strokes, etc. Really fun to play around with when you want to add some personality to your videos.

  • Hype Text: Add animated text to photos or colorful backgrounds. This app is great for adding a little excitement to a text-only promo.

Background music:

  • Add Music: When your profile has the pesky bug that doesn’t allow music, this app can be a simple fix to add music over videos. Simply search “Add Music” in iTunes to download the app and browse their huge library of songs. You’ll have to upload your video to the app, add a song, then download before uploading to IG Stories.

Scheduling:

  • Later: To save time and plan in advance, use Later to schedule your stories to keep consistent content going out!
